Kandidatforslag sendes til post@nofe.no innen 1. september.
NOFEs Honorary membership
The NOFE board may award honorary membership to epidemiologists who have had a significant influence on the development of epidemiological research in Norway over several years. At least two NOFE members must jointly propose a candidate for the candidate to be considered. In addition, a written justification for the nomination must be submitted. The submitted justification will be used by the NOFE board to assess the nominated candidate. If the nominated candidate is considered worthy by the board, the submitted justification will be used in the presentation of the honorary member at the conference. The NOFE’s honorary member will be invited ahead of the NOFE conference to give a short presentation about his own research career within the field of epidemiology. Honorary membership is not necessarily awarded every year, only if the board receives proposals for candidates who are found worthy of the honorary membership. The list of proposed candidates is confidential and is only available to the board. Candidate proposals shoul be send to post@nofe.no by 1st September.

Haakon Meyer is awarded NOFEs Honorary membership in 2024
Haakon Meyer was nominated for his significant contributions to epidemiological research, education, and public health in Norway over many years. He has focused on bridging clinical and public health knowledge, particularly in the field of osteoporosis and fracture epidemiology.
He has been instrumental in preserving and utilizing data from large national health surveys, including the Cohort of Norway (CONOR), ensuring their value for long-term research. As the leader of the Norwegian Epidemiological Osteoporosis Studies (NOREPOS), he played a key role in standardizing bone density data in Norway, driving important national collaborations. His creativity has, among other things, resulted in the reuse of national data on immune response after BCG vaccination from mandatory screening studies in the 1960s and 70s, which can be compared with newer endpoint registries.
He has also been a dedicated and caring mentor, supervising over 20 PhD students and many master’s students, and is well-regarded for his clear, accessible teaching.
In addition to his research, he is highly skilled at communicating research-based knowledge in the media in a balanced and factual manner. He has a trustworthy presence and a special ability to present things from a well-balanced perspective. He has worked closely with the Norwegian Directorate of Health, leading the National Council for Nutrition for six years. He is a professor at the University of Oslo and a senior researcher at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.
